When the only certainty is uncertainty, you need to choose the right tariff

The last year has caused us all to become accustomed to the unexpected. Many lessons have been learned about preparing for the impact of significant events that are beyond our control.

And when it comes to creating extra resilience in your business, uncertain times mean you need certainty with your phone tariffs.

There are a number of events and associated impacts that you need to be aware of and factor into the day-to-day and longer-term management of your mobile estate. These can range from the unintended consequences of COVID-19 to major issues that have been in the news for years.

A great example of the latter is Brexit. Your business may have prepared in all sorts of ways, but the truth is that there are some areas where the future path remains unclear – and one of those areas is roaming charges.

No place like roam

The UK may have left the EU, and with a trade deal in place too. But that deal doesn’t rule out additional costs for UK customers using their mobile phones in EU countries.

It wasn’t long ago that using a mobile phone in Europe was expensive, with some people returning from trips to find bills for hundreds or even thousands of pounds waiting for them.

Agreements need to be in place between UK operators and those in EU countries to prevent charges increasing and, while they may have had such deals at the start of 2021, there is no guarantee that they will be able to maintain them indefinitely.

And of course, there are many countries outside the EU – and Europe itself – which have and will continue to pose the risk of running up significant roaming charges.

Against this background, ask yourself how future-proofed your mobile tariffs are. There will come a point where regular business travel will resume, and you need to be prepared for what the landscape may look like.

Expecting the unexpected

Various other unexpected events can impact on the way employees’ phones are used and result in bill shock, and these can sometimes come from unlikely quarters.

For example, there have been instances of children using a parent’s phone to access home-schooling related calls and resources during the pandemic, which has resulted in significant data usage.

Consider also the need to dial into conference calls and meetings while working remotely. If your mobile tariff doesn’t include the kind of conference numbers that are regularly dialled – such as those beginning 08xx – you’re leaving yourself open to bill shock.

What these risks can sometimes boil down to is simply being on the wrong type of tariff.

It’s all about flexibility. If a provider fails to offer a tariff that takes your usage into account and gives you the ability to adapt to unexpected change, you may run into problems.

Stay ahead of the game

At Adam Phones, we can ensure that this all-important flexibility is included in a specific tariff for your business that avoids surprises. We can analyse costs and factors in elements such as predicted travel so that you’re always on a suitable tariff.

Costs can be monitored through our portal so that you can keep track of usage, set alerts and pinpoint where, when and how charges are being accrued. Not only will you be able to adjust your tariff accordingly, but you can also take extra steps to manage data.

In addition, our Wandera service means you can be in control of mobile data usage, receive notifications and even deploy app blocking policies.
